Note: This is the first time I will discuss the Slammy Awards as a whole, not part of the Monday Night Raw show. This is going to be interesting because most of the awards are setups to something else. Here's my take on the 2012 Slammy Awards.
First Award - Most Shocking Award
Presenter: Booker T.
Nominees: Brad Maddox's Low Blow, 18 Seconds, Kofi's Miracle Save, The Rock Gets Punked
Winner: Kofi's Miracle Save - Royal Rumble 2012
(Personally, this was a good call because this will not be done again. Kofi is getting pushed but I want to see him in a title hunt. I mean a real title hunt.)
Second Award - Comeback Award
Presenter: New Age Outlaws
Nominees: Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, DX, Jerry Lawler
Winner: Jerry Lawler - After his heart attack on Monday Night Raw
(This was a gimmie because it would have been bad to see someone else get this award. Also we knew we was not going to see Lesnar until after the new year.)
Third Award - Kiss Of The Year
Presenter: Vickie Guerrero
Nominees: AJ/Daniel Bryan, AJ/Kane, AJ/CM Punk, AJ/John Cena
Winner: AJ/John Cena - Monday Night Raw
(This was to setup the main event of the night. Also it was kind of one sided because no matter what, AJ was going to win.)
Fourth Award - Superstar of the Year
Presenter: Ric Flair
Nominees: Sheamus, John Cena, Big Show, CM Punk
Winner: John Cena
(Now, this was total bullshit! We all knows that Vince has a hard on for Cena. We also know that this was bullshit. However, thank you WWE for bring back Ric Flair. So TNA should be pissed but I am happy to see Flair back home for a while. I think Flair can remake WWE for the better just like Foley.)
Fifth Award - LOL Moment of the Year
Presenters: Santino Marella and Tensai
Nominees: The Rock, Team Hell No, Randy Orton, Vickie Guerrero
Winner: The Rock Throwing John Cena's Merch in Boston
(Where to begin with this segment? Well Tensai is a jobber and a joke now. Santino called him Albert. This was the funniest segment of the show. Also it was nice to see that they are doing more for these awards. Poor Tensai......Time to go back to New Japan.)
Sixth Award - #trending now Award
Presenters: Layla and Zack Ryder
Nominees: #feedmemore, #peoplepower, #littlejimmy, #wwwyki
Winner: #feedmemore - Ryback
(Zack Ryder should have won this award. I guess like Tensai, it is time to do something new with Zack Ryder. Because WWE is going to bury him until he breaks or ends up like other jobbers that leave.)
Seventh Award - Newcomer of the Year
Presenter: Sheamus
Nominees: Brodus Clay, Antonio Cesaro, Damien Sandow, Ryback
Winner: Ryback
(This was a no brainer. Moving on......)
Eighth Award - Match of The Year for 2012
Presenters: Ricky Steamboat, Mean Gene, and Jim Ross
Nominees: Taker and Triple H, Brock and Cena, Show and Sheamus, Rock and Cena
Winner: Taker and Triple H - Wrestlemania 28
(This was another no brainer. Thank you guys for making this a reminder that the attitude era was not a joke. This match was the best ever seen on PPV and also in the history of the WWE. Also it is noteworthy to showcase that this match was better than Rock and Cena because this was a long time coming.)
Final Thoughts: I decided to do this segment seperate from the Raw Review because to me this was more so a seperate subject to speak about. Unlike the WWE Hall of Fame, this is more for the fans so to speak. Most of the awards did go to the right people except for Zack Ryder and also AJ Lee. I hope that next year, we see that this is not a part of a WWE Monday Night Raw. Actually, this could have taken the first hour of Raw without any matches and could have been done like the Hall of Fame. I guess next year might be a sign of change in the WWE.
